Ashley YFC, Staffordshire

RUNNER UP of the Community Spirit Award 2020

Six months after Ashley YFC first set up a local community support service, it’s still going strong. The lockdown situation back in March, encouraged members of the club to get out and support their rural community by offering dog walks, shopping, prescription deliveries and general errands for vulnerable people. They also worked closely with the local hospital, surgery and pharmacy. And even since restrictions have eased, the club still responds to up to three calls for help a week.

Club members worked together to share out the workload – despite many of them still work-ing hard on farms and in local shops.

The club also actively promoted its work on social media and even got a mention in Farmers Guardian for their positive attitude towards helping others.

Their service also covered a wide-ranging area as members helped people across Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire.
