DIAGEO BARTENDING TRAINING

Following a successful pilot in 2010, this year NFYFC entered into a year-long partnership with Diageo which has involved the drinks giant funding and running six bartending courses to help ensure YFC events are safe, profitable and fun for all.

The course covers the laws governing running a bar, including applying for a temporary events notice (TEN), creative ways of maximising profit and devising menus that cater for everyone including those driving or not drinking.

Personal development steering group chairwoman Claire Swinburne explains:
“A lot of the fundraising Young Farmers' Clubs do for charities up and down the country takes place at at host of YFC social events.

“The training sessions teach novel and practical ways of creating a fun bar menu while maximising profit and making sure the event is safe and enjoyable – from stocking your bar properly; successful service; and making cocktails and mocktails; to learning about  the laws governing  running a bar, including applying for a temporary events notice (TEN).

“People who’ve been on the course have been amazed at how easily they can increase profits from an event by being more creative about their bar menu to cater for everyone, including those driving or not drinking. They also really enjoyed learning simple ways of making drinks more attractive and being more creative about making non-alcoholic drinks that taste as good as they look.

“Diageo teaches bartenders from many bar chains across the country, and the certificate you get for successfully attending the course will provide back-up evidence of best practice for when you apply for a TEN.

“Courses are open to YFC members, associates and staff who are involved in running bars for YFC events, or who would like to be involved in the future."
