What is a ‘Livery Buddy’?
The Worshipful Company of Farmers know that in the early stages of your career there are lots of decisions to be made and many options to choose from. This can prove a daunting experience and you might not know many people who work in the specialism you are interested in. Members of the Company come from all walks of life and represent a huge range of careers – from setting up businesses, running commercial companies, farming in hand (both arable and livestock) to a variety of professional positions such as consultancy accountancy, estate agency and auctioneering.

With this in mind, the training award also provides the opportunity for the two successful YFC members to spend time with a ‘Livery Buddy’. Your ‘Livery Buddy’ will be a member of the Worshipful Company of Farmers and someone who has been very successful in the area of work you are most interested in learning more about. This is your chance to ask questions, get advice about your future career and meet like-minded people who can help you to kick start your career.

Why is the Worshipful Company of Farmers offering these scholarships?
The Company is keen to support and encourage young people who are at the beginning of their careers in land- based industries. The company acknowledges that the opportunity to access financial support to undertake key training, can improve a person’s employability and eligibility for career progression. Furthermore, the support of a Livery Buddy will prove a great opportunity for career guidance and encouragement.

When will I find out if my application has been successful?
The Worshipful Company of Farmers’ judging panel will meet between July and August to create a shortlist and select the award winners. The successful applicants will be contacted in early September.
