Jill Persey, supporter of Culm Valley YFC, Devon

WINNER – YFC Supporter of the Year Award 2020

You would be hard pushed to find someone more involved and invested in YFC than Jill. After many years spent as a YFC member – even being Devon County Chairman at one point – Jill never really left the Federation behind.

All of Jill’s children have been members of Culm Valley YFC and followed in her footsteps by taking part in many competitions.

Jill’s endless energy and encouragement is described as infectious and her positive influence encourages many to achieve their goals.

Over the years, Jill has trained generations of YFC members, helping them to achieve more in competitions and securing winning positions at the national finals. If she isn’t training members, Jill can often be found in the judge’s seat too – still sharing her experience and support.

As a member of the club’s advisory, Jill helps to run the annual Show & Sale, field days, balls and fundraisers – such as the club’s 24-hour shearathon last year.

She is currently helping with the club’s 100-year celebrations and helped with a news feature on BBC Spotlight, bringing positive publicity for the club.

Her passion for YFC is perhaps best demonstrated through the trust fund that was set up in her daughter’s name. Jill tragically lost her daughter Laura – a member of Culm Valley – in 2007 and set up the Laura Persey Trust Fund to provide members with funding to help them learn new skills.

Members have grown in confidence, thanks to Jill’s support, which has ultimately changed lives in the process and nurtured life-long friendships. Her guidance and tuition at public speaking have helped members progress into confident young people who are eager to perform publicly.

Jill’s dedication to YFC and support for young people shines out and is valued by the club she first joined and the wider Federation.
