Agriculture and Rural Affairs
Agriculture and rural affairs have far-reaching effects on YFCs – whether competition, club programme, training and discussion content or personal development. Equally, young people involved in YFCs help to influence the rural agenda. NFYFC helps members to vocalise their concerns and influence the direction of the YFC organisation by facilitating meetings and work from the agriculture and rural affairs steering group. National events include the ARAC Forum, Farm Business Development Competition and Regional Link Days. Members’ concerns are represented to industry and government on a national level and collaborative and partnership work is undertaken on behalf of YFC members.
English Rural Housing Association
NFYFC is working in partnership with the English Rural Housing Association to help YFC members obtain advice on the subject of affordable rural housing. An easy-to-read guide gives answers to frequently asked questions as well as advice on taking local action. A powerpoint presentation will also be available shortly for you to download for use at YFC club, county or area meetings.
NFYFC/National Non Food Crops Centre study tour to Germany
A group of young farmers recently travelled to Germany for a two-day tour of farms incorporating renewable technology as well as the German Agency for Renewable Resources, Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (FNR).
NFYFC on-line survey results - Your Future and Farming
The results of the 2007 Your Future and Farming survey is now available. The on-line survey was conducted by NFYFC as a way of finding out about some of the concerns and issues surrounding young people as they enter into farming and was supported by the National Trust and Fresh Start.
Farm Business Development Competition
The NFYFC farm business development competition is devised to present a realistic scenario for YFC members to hone their business skills in order secure a farm tenancy.
Consultation response – Defra third sector strategy
NFYFC representatives joined the Rural Youth Network, NCVYS and NCVCCO in a roundtable event to discuss the ‘Towards a Defra Third Sector Strategy’.
