Background information
The Tenancy Reform Industry Group was set up in October 2002 to consider the economic evaluation of the Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995 by the University of Plymouth and the tenancy related recommendations of the Policy Commission on Food and Farming. Its remit was:
- To establish an industry consensus or propose options for tenancy reform which could be recommended to Government.
- Make the case for the removal of fiscal disincentives/the introduction of fiscal incentives, which are broadly revenue neutral, indicating why this is in the public interest.
The final TRIG report was published in June 2003 and subsequent Defra publications have followed which include:
- The Government response to the Report of the Tenancy Reform Industry Group
- Code of good practice for agri-environment schemes and diversification projects within agricultural tenancies (copies available from NFYFC)
- Notes to aid tenants and landlords on CAP Reform
- The Regulatory Reform (Agricultural Tenancies) (England and Wales) Order 2006
