NFYFC and CAP reform
NFYFC started gearing up
for CAP reform during 2010 with a range of activity, including
presentations to its agriculture & rural affairs steering group,
visits to Brussels and meetings with European Commission
representatives.
In March 2010, 20 YFC members attended an MEP-sponsored visit to the European Parliament in Brussels and met with MEPs Richard Ashworth and Robert Sturdy as well as NFU Brussels office staff. CAP reform experts joined YFC members in Torquay for the Your Europe discussion group at NFYFC's 2010 agriculture and rural affairs forum led by Defra’s Nicola Clarke and the EU’s Mike Mackenzie.
In
June, YFC representatives visited CEJA in Brussels and two papers were
submitted to the NFYFC Board of Management recommending that NFYFC
considers re-joining the organisation that it was a member of until
2005.
A letter sent to the European Commissioner highlighting YFC
ideas for future CAP reform led to a meeting with a representative of
the European Commission and NFYFC was also invited to join Defra’s CAP
Reform Stakeholder Group.
CAP reform presents future opportunities for young farmers and new entrants so NFYFC is inviting you to view the work of your European counterparts.

CAP Reform
On 12 October, the European Commission presented a set of legal proposals designed to make the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) a more effective policy for a more competitive and sustainable agriculture and vibrant rural areas.
Proposals for young farmers are included in the presentation and NFYFC and CEJA welcome future support for the younger generation.

CEJA and Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform
The European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) is the voice of Europe’s next generation of farmers.
Based in Brussels, it brings together young farmers' organisations from across Europe with the main objective of promoting a younger and more innovative agricultural sector across the EU and to create good working and living conditions for young people setting up in farming as well as existing young farmers. It currently has 28 members.
CEJA achieves this by acting as a forum for communication and dialogue between young farmers and European decision-makers. This is particularly pertinent with forthcoming Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform.
