Neighbours win Wales YFC English public speaking competition

Neighbouring counties Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire (pictured) lifted the Geraint Evans Shield in this year’s Wales YFC English public speaking competition.

Held at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, the competition was closely fought as always, with Gwent taking third place.

Wales YFC activities and international committee chairwoman Caroline Dawson said: “Public speaking is a talent that cannot be taught, it is something which has to be nurtured over a number of years. I believe Wales YFC produces some of the best speakers in the country, and that without the encouragement of clubs, club leaders and fellow members, many simply wouldn’t get the opportunity to feel the buzz of competing in such an event.”

Glamorgan YFC won the senior debating competition; Pembrokeshire YFC the intermediate Brainstrust; Brecknock YFC took home the junior competition honours, and Gwent won the reading section.
