Cumbria

Northern area competitions weekend

Cumbria’s Young Farmers’ Clubs hosted a fantastic weekend of public speaking, drama and sports for the Northern area counties.

Five hundred YFC members from Lancashire, East Riding, Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire travelled to Carlisle to compete for places in the national finals of the various competitions.

Cumbria YFC enjoyed some outstanding results, with Carlisle YFC winning the drama competition (pictured left) with its production of Halloween, A Decameronian Adventure.

Craig Holliday, from Carlisle YFC, won best actor and Lauren Galbraith, from Grayrigg YFC, best actress. Caldbeck YFC’s juniors – Laura Potts, Emma Armstrong and Rachel Graham – won the junior public speaking competition and Craig Brough, chairman of the Northern area weekend committee, won the Northern area Senior YFC Ambassador title.

Cumbria B team tied with Yorkshire B to win overall on 82 points, with Cumbria A in third place on 80 points.

Craig Brough (pictured right) thanked the judges and stewards for an excellent weekend of competition and his secretary Amy Johnson for all her work. The weekend closed with an evening dance to the music of the Naturalz, at Borderway Mart.
