South Pembs YFC sheep racing for air ambulance

Racing sheep adorned with colourful hand-knitted jockeys helped South Pembs YFC raise one of its largest-ever donations to charity.
The event, at Windsor Farm, Lamphey, drew a capacity crowd of nearly 500 people and South Pembs YFC crossed the finishing line with a £6,000 donation to the Wales Air Ambulance, an achievement that won the club the ER Phillips Award at the Pembrokeshire County Show for community and charity work.
Club chairman Rhys James was delighted with the huge support the event received. “We had very generous sponsorship from businesses and individuals for which we are very grateful, and we are hugely thankful to the Phillips family for hosting the event and helping us to make it such a success,’’ he said. “A big thank you must also go to members, leaders and parents for their help and support.’’
The knitted dolls, which doubled as jockeys for the sheep, were made by Ros Williams, the club’s incoming president.

Dozens of Ruthin Young Farmers demonstrated their skills in floral arts for the first time in ten years at the Ruthin Flower Show on 8 August. The club teamed up with the show and auction to create a new venue for the floral competitions and other demonstrations of skill after a decade of being without. Around 48 entrants took part in eight competitions, from butcher’s lamb, best sheep; decorating four small cakes, flower arrangement in a wellington, longest thistle, longest nettle, misshaped vegetable and photography.
