Switzerland
Dates: 4-6 weeks, June 2012
One delegate
Ages: 18-26
Cost: flight, insurance, participation fee, social expenditure.

Fact file: You will be hosted by The International Four-H Youth Exchange (IFYE), and need to fly in to Zurich.  On arrival there will be an orientation weekend, giving you the chance to meet the other exchangees.  The IFYE of Switzerland says that the main reason for participating should be an interest in agriculture and the culture of Switzerland.  Participants must be flexible and motivated to learn new things.  You will need very basic French and German, (approx 100 most important words) as not all families will be English speaking.  This is not a holiday, you will be expected to help out with the daily work for example picking cherries, pears, plums and apples, picking berries, digging potatoes, making hay and any other daily work.  You will get the chance to meet local rural youth groups and to do small trips with your host families or by your own (in coordination with your host families).

Scotland - 1 place available – 2 weeks  - 11th – 24th June

MAKE YOUR DISCOVERY

Travelling with Discovery is a unique opportunity to experience new cultures, make new friends and really broaden your horizons.

Austria, Canada, Sweden and Germany are just four of the destinations on offer and the trips vary from one week to three months. You can choose between Homestay, Team Travel or Working Exchanges.

If you are selected, you will have the chance to be an ambassador for your country and for YFC – a really positive achievement to put on your CV, or in your university or job applications.

So grasp the opportunity and it could be you packing your suitcase for the NFYFC Discovery trip of a lifetime!

A presentation and other materials to help you promote Discovery at club and county level is available on the club resources page.

New for 2012

A host of new destinations and types of trips to enjoy will be added to the Discovery programme for 2012.

In addition to the original Homestays, Team Travel and Working holidays, there will be new opportunities to volunteer as part of a small group of fellow YFC members, cultural experiences where you can hone skills such as cookery, and adventure holidays where you will be able to try your hand at new experiences such as watersports, trekking or mountain biking, for example. These new travel options are currently being developed and full details will be available on the NFYFC website towards the end of 2011 – so check back regularly for further information and to book.

Follow the links on the left of the page to find out more about the trips available through Discovery this year, who is eligible and for application documents, brochures and more information.
