NATIONAL FEDERATION OF YOUNG FARMERS' CLUBS
"Fun, Learning, and Achievement"
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
How to take part

What is the Award?
The award is a four-section programme with three levels:
Bronze - for those aged 14 and over (takes 6–12 months to complete)
Silver - for those aged 15 and over (takes 12–18 months to complete)
Gold - for those aged 16 and over (takes 18–24 months to complete)
The four sections are:
Service (helping people in the community)
Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest)
Physical recreation (sport, dance and fitness)
Expeditions (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot, horseback, cycle etc)

The Gold Award involves an additional section – a residential project
that has to be completed with people you didn’t know previously. It
may take less time to complete the Silver or Gold Awards if you hold
the preceding level. All awards must be completed by your 25th
birthday.
Take the Challenge!

But do other people know what you are talking about when you say that you’ve been a club secretary or won a national YFC public speaking competition? Now you can get double recognition for many of the things you do within YFC by completing The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Each level involves four sections – skills, service, physical recreation and expeditions.
Whatever you’re into, within or without YFC, rest assured you’ll be able to do it for one of the programme’s sections.
If you hold a position within your club, county, area, or NFYFC, or are fundraising or taking part in a community service project, then this can count towards the service section of your award.
If you’re taking part in training sessions to learn a skill for a YFC competition, then this can contribute towards the skills section.
If you’re playing a sport regularly in preparation for one of the sports competitions, then you can use this for the physical recreation section.

Before you know it, the only section you’ll have left to complete will be the expedition section and what better way of creating some inter- club teambuilding than by organising a walking, cycling, canoeing or horse riding expedition that can double up for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award?
