The Herefordshire federation of young farmers' clubs celebrate the involvement of two special people

On Saturday 17th November members, past members and friends marked the involvement of Clive Richards, OBE DL and Mr Christopher Lloyd at a special Celebration Dinner organised by the Herefordshire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs in honour of two people who have given so much to the organisation.

Over 150 people enjoyed an unforgettable evening at the Belmont Lodge and Golf Club where a host of speakers entertained the audience with anecdotes and memories. Mr Richard Thomas, Master of Ceremonies and currently County Chairman of the Herefordshire Federation, opened the evening and was delighted to welcome 14 past members each of whom had held the post of County Chairman during the past 16 years. Circumstances prevented two past County Chairmans being able to attend - Mr Matthew Ware of Dilwyn YFC (1997-1998) who is currently working for the NFU in London as a Senior Policy Advisor, and Mr Graham Pennington of Eardisley YFC (2000-2001) who has since emigrated to New Zealand where he lives with his family.

Clive Richards, OBE DL, well-known in Herefordshire for his patronage of many school and community projects, as well as his farm and open gardens at Lower Hope and his herd of prize-winning pedigree Hereford cattle, retired as County President at the Annual General Meeting in October having served the Federation for the past 16 years. Mr Owen Whittall, Mrs Becky Wall, Mrs Wendy Davies, Mrs Daintree Griffiths and Mr Gareth Watkins all spoke individually thanking Mr Clive and Mrs Sylvia Richards for their tremendous support over the years. It is estimated that over

4,000 young people in Herefordshire aged 10 – 26 years have been members of the Federation during Mr Clive Richards’ time in office.

Mr Glenn Jones, Mr Richard Sparey, Mr Bryan Chivers, Mrs Paula Clarke and Mrs Tracey Morgan continued with happy memories of their friend and family member, Mr Christopher Lloyd of Pontrilas YFC. Chris, who plans to step down this year, took on the role of Honorary Treasurer to the Federation in the year 1999-2000 and is well-known in the Herefordshire Federation and nationally for his dry sense of humour, his humility and unfailing support for all of his fellow members.

Miss Jenny Layton, Miss Catherine Jones, Miss Karon Jones and the Golden Valley Young Farmers Club band - Mr Dave Phillips (keyboards) and his two sons, Alistair (sound) and Scott (drums), and Mrs Ann Davies (guitar) – warmed the audience up on a very cold night with three specially selected songs as their heartfelt tribute to Mr Clive Richards and Mr Christopher Lloyd.

The presentation of gifts and vote of thanks was given by Council Leader and past young farmer, Mr Roger Phillips.
