The National Federation of Young Farmers is inviting all Young Farmers to join the already successful Re:Cycle Your Mobile scheme which has so far raised over £2,000 for clubs across the UK.
Re:Cycle Your Mobile teamed up with Young Farmers in 2006 to launch a recycling campaign to collect unwanted mobile telephones to help raise important funds for clubs. The recycling initiative is urging people to donate their unwanted mobile phones and help raise cash for local schools. For each recyclable phone donated your Young Farmers Club will receive up to £10.00. Not only is this an easy way to raise funds, it also helps save our environment.
The scheme couldn’t be simpler, just put your unwanted mobile phone into the freepost envelope enclosed in this newsletter and pop it in the post. Be sure to write your local YFC club name in the box.
It is estimated today that there is somewhere in the region of 60 million to 90 million unwanted handsets languishing in drawers and offices in the UK. With millions more new handsets being pumped into an already saturated market place each year at greatly subsidised prices, this mountain just continues to grow.
Many developing countries have extremely limited access to landline communication systems and mobile technology has revolutionised communications. However, handset prices are not subsidised in these areas and the cost of a brand new handset is prohibitive to most of the population. Old and unwanted used handsets from the UK can provide an affordable solution to this problem all over the developing world.
Recycling with Re:cycle Your Mobile, also guarantees that even items that cannot be reused or resold will not end up in landfill. Mobile phones and their batteries contain elements such as mercury, cadmium, nickel and gallium arsenide that if not disposed of carefully, can be extremely harmful to the environment. Anything that cannot be reused or refurbished is recycled either to extract reusable elements such as copper or to be used as the raw material for anything from road sleepers to frisbee’s.
You can request a single freepost envelope for your own phone or several bags (in a display box if you need one) to be placed in public areas in workplaces or at points of sale for customers or fellow workmates to use if they wish.
