At least 50 young people came out in force for Defra’s final 25 Year Plan next generation event on November 25.  Hosted by Harper Adams, the day attracted YFC members, students and Young Farmers from across the country.

Defra acknowledged that it was impressive to see many young talented people with so much passion and positive outlook for the future. It was hoped that their feedback could help shape development of the long term plan.

Education, breaking down trade barriers, consumer confidence, joined-up government thinking and delivery were high on the audience’s agenda.

Lynsey Martin, NFYFC AGRI Chair who summed up the event said: “There has been a range of representation today from young people either working or studying in the farming and food industries.  We hope the constructive dialogue and emphasis on topics that we feel need to be addressed are taken on board, but appreciate having our part in the consultation process.  I’m confident in saying that we understand the need to equip ourselves with the necessary skills to further our business and career aims, but hope the action needed will substantiate our aims.”
