Competitors from across England and Wales put their stockjudging skills to the test at the English Winter Fair at Staffordshire County Showground over the weekend.

Gloucestershire A team’s Milly Hendy took first prize in the intermediate beef (live and carcase) judging competition; with Yorkshire A team’s Ryan Atkinson first in the senior category.

First place in the intermediate pork (live and carcase) judging competition went to Beth Lawrence from Montgomery YFC A team; with Gloucestershire B team’s Oliver Teague taking first place in the senior category.

The Mark Madders Trophy, for the highest scoring county intermediate team, was awarded to Montgomery A team, made up of Becky George and Beth Lawrence.

The Bob Williams Trophy, for the highest scoring county senior team, was awarded to Herefordshire A team of Michael Hanson and Matthew Price.

The Smithfield Trophy (overall beef stockjudging team) was awarded to the Yorkshire A team of Anna Stapleton and Ryan Atkinson, and Montgomery B team of Naomi George and Daffydd Morris took home the Smithfield Trophy (overall pork stockjudging team).

The John Spear Trophy, awarded to the county with the overall highest marks, went home with Montgomery A team.

The event is sponsored by EBLEX and hosted by the Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society, with awards presented by the Royal Smithfield Club.
