NFYFC’s commercial arm HOPS Labour Solutions has been working with growers, co-operatives, technical auditors and major retailers to help produce an essential industry guide.

A collaborative project has enabled the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) to issue an industry guidance document covering caravan accommodation for temporary workers in the UK.

HOPS Labour Solutions has been one of the major UK labour provider contributors and the guidance includes information on legal requirements, benchmark indicators and practical advice.

Director John Hardman said: “HOPS has been delighted to be involved with this essential work facilitated by the FPC. Our industry must be cohesive and have collective responsibility to ensure UK farming leads by example in ethical standards and worker welfare.”

The importance for growers carrying out their own assessment based on the specific features of their site is highlighted.  A self-help checklist is included to help growers assess the status of their caravan accommodation against the benchmark indicators.

FPC chief executive Nigel Jenney said that the aim of the guidance is to enable the industry to work together and improve conditions where necessary.  He welcomed the development of a practical tool to support growers and feedback on its application.

The new guide is available free for FPC members or can be purchased by non-members.
