Effectively representing young people is top of the agenda for NFYFC's newly created youth forum, which is holding its next meeting on 22 January at the YFC Centre in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.

A delegate from the British Youth Council will be visiting the group to deliver training to help the forum members collect and feedback the views of the federation's junior members.

 The forum will also be discussion the mascot competition launched this month, the role they will play in the NFYFC democratic structure including how they will feedback to the NFYFC council.

NFYFC's Richard Thomas represented Young Farmers' Clubs at this year's Oxford Union Debate on the topic: "This house believes unrestrained population growth and food security are incompatible."

Agriculture & Rural Affairs steering group member Richard was opposing the motion will be Sir Paul Judge, chairman of  Schroder Income Growth Fund and president of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Association of MBAs and a past chairman of Food from Britain.

Proposing the motion was Jonathon Porritt, co-founder of Forum for the Future, a writer, broadcaster and commentator on sustainable developmen, seconded by Angharad Evans, the winner of the 2010 Young Advocates Competition and a recent MSc graduate in international agriculture from the Royal Agricultural College.

Richard, who has a degree in agricultural marketing from Harper Adams and now runs the family farm with his father, also current chairman of the West Midlands area.
