Machinery ideas such as a BovineBackFlipper 9000 were among the mad ideas created by members of Weald of Kent YFC during their Dragon’s Den-style club meeting on Zoom last year.

Club members were asked to create innovative products and services for the land-based industry – the more outrageous the better – to impress a team of ‘Dragons.’ The dragons were made up of a Club leader with vast experience in machinery marketing, the Club’s President and a Chairman from a neighbouring YFC who runs their own business.

The club were split into three teams and were given 50 minutes to come up with their ideas and pull together a presentation to impress the Dragons.

Teams used software such as PowerPoint, and one even pulled together a CAD drawing in the time provided to present their creations over Zoom.

Ideas included an auto feeder weighing machine with an app, which attracted one dragon; a go anywhere, do anything tractor, which attracted one dragon and the BovineBackFlipper 9000, which caught the attention of two dragons!

One of the Dragons Stephen Paine, tweeted that he was “very impressed with how developed the ideas were in such a short time! A very clever bunch of people you have there.”

The whole session took two and a half hours and raised a lot of laughter with the creative ideas. The club say it could also be run as an interclub activity too and had picked up the idea from Ashford YFC who had run it as a session before the pandemic.

Club President Claire Eckley said: “There were lots of laughs which was just what we needed on the day we went into Tier 3.”
