All five rural youth organisations in the UK and Ireland came together for a summit hosted in Cardiff by Wales YFC.

Representatives from the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (England and Wales), Macra na Feirme, Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Clubs, and Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster got together to share best practice, collaborative working and discuss issues affecting rural youth organisations across the UK.

A session was also spent looking at the group itself, the way it works and how it can be developed to provide maximum benefit for all delegates attending.

Wales YFC chairman Tim John said: “It was pleasing to see representatives from all five of the rural youth organisations in the UK and Ireland attend.

“Each of the organisations works differently and the five nations meetings gives us the chance to learn more about each other.

“All of the staff members responsible for the international programme within each organisation were invited to attend which gave them the opportunity to discuss the programme within their countries and we hope that this will provide a platform for joint projects in the future.”

The next meeting will be hosted by the Scottish organisation in Edinburgh.
