YFC members picked up a few tips from EU politicians and NFU lobbyists during a recent study trip to Brussels.

The whistle-stop tour involved a visit to the European Parliament and discussion with Robert Sturdy MEP, who sponsored the event.

Richard Ashworth MEP joined the group to discuss future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform and the NFU met the group of 20 YFC members to explain the significance of its role in Brussels.

The trip, organised by the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC), was part of an EU fact-finding mission in preparation for Common Agricultural Policy reform, as well as an opportunity for YFC members to broaden their awareness of European politics.

NFYFC agriculture and rural affairs chairwoman Katherine Sealy said: “We were really pleased to have the latest news on EU farming from the NFU office in Brussels and to learn a bit more about the ins and outs of EU policy making.”
