More than 200 Cumbria YFC members and guests gathered at the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, for the southern district AGM.

Outgoing president Christine Booth and chairman Andrew Long reviewed the successes and highlights of the past year, including a membership increase of 100 over the past two years.

Advisory member at Eden Valley YFC Linda Pigney was elected president for the coming year and Pennine YFC’s John Tunstall is the new chairman, with Grayrigg YFC’s Lauren Galbraith the new vice chairwoman. Crook’s Stephen Rowlinson was elected district treasurer for the 22nd year.

The AGM ended with the presentation of the year’s awards. The public speaking and winter competitions trophy was presented to Kent Estuary YFC; Furness YFC received the craft trophy; Sedbergh YFC was the most improved club and Tracey Dargue, of Pennine YFC, was the member contributing the most to a club’s development. Dorrie Galbraith was presented with a trophy recognising her outstanding contribution to YFC and Lisa Mason, of Kent Estuary YFC, was announced as Young Farmer of the Year.
