Carmarthenshire YFC crowned Welsh public speaking champs
Carmarthenshire YFC took home the Eryl Williams Public Speaking Shield from the Wales YFC Welsh public speaking competitions, held at Ysgol Tywyn, Tywyn. Ceredigion were placed second and Pembrokeshire, third.
Wales YFC chairman Tim John said that the standard of entries was again high. “Public speaking is a talent that can't be taught. It is something which has to be nurtured over a number of years.
“I honestly believe Wales YFC produces some of the best speakers in the country, and that without the encouragement of clubs, club leaders and fellow members, many simply wouldn’t get the opportunity to feel the buzz of competing in such an event,” he said.
In the senior section, after dinner speaking, YFC members had to propose a toast on behalf of various organisations and Ceredigion YFC won, also taking first place in the intermediate Brainstrust competition.
Carmarthenshire YFC took the honours in the junior section, with Ynys Môn YFC (pictured) winning the reading section.
Wales YFC's English public speaking competitions will be held at the Royal Welsh Showground on 6 March.
