NFYFC Council April 2008
At the meeting of Council on 5th April 2008, the following was agreed as a plan of action for the NFYFC:
“That the NFYFC becomes financially independent by the end of 2010”
That the Coordination Approach Campaign, Strategic Planning (incl. appointment of 2 members of staff) is put into action.
That NFYFC adopts and implements a fundraising plan – target new money
That the NFYFC underwrites the £40,000 deficit budget for 2008 from reserves
That the NFYFC underwrites half (50%) of the £137,000 deficit budget in 2009 from reserves, and that the levy is increased by approx. £3 per member at the 2009 AGM
That the NFYFC becomes financially independent by the end of 2010 with another levy increase at the 2010 AGM (approx. a further £3 per member)
Council members were given a presentation by Chairman of Council, Dan Halliday and Chief Executive James Eckley that gave a strategic overview of immediate and medium term plans.
These include:
Developing a 5 year strategic plan, including a fundraising plan to start now and include work at the June meeting of Council.
To start work on a Coordination Approach Campaign which is designed to create more effective work throughout the whole organisation. Council members and area chairman will have key roles defined.
The Coordination Campaign will support and enhanced recruitment campaign (this is not New Members Week) and will help YFCs get ready for this.
The creation of a Welcome Pack for new YFC members which explains the YFC, its structure, its financing, opportunities and much more.
The appointment of 2 additional members of NFYFC’s development staff team.
Financially what does this mean?
That the NFYFC will run a £40,000 deficit budget in 2008 and this deficit should come from the NFYFC’s reserves.
That the 2009 deficit budget would be £137,000 – half of which should come from reserves, the other half being raised by an approximate £3 increase to the member levy at the 2009 Annual General Meeting. And that at the 2010 Annual General Meeting approximately another £3 increase to the member levy will bring the NFYFC financial independence for its essential work.
The increases to the member levy can only be agreed at the Annual General Meetings. Therefore, this is a plan that is agreed by Council as a way forward, but cannot be confirmed until the relevant Motions have been put to the 2009 and 2010 AGM’s. The 2008 AGM cannot agree increases to the member levy for more than one year.
Meanwhile the levy Motion to the 2008 AGM remains as on the draft Agenda - “That the gross National Subscription (National Levy) for the period 1 September 2008 to 31 August 2009 be increased by 3%”
Based on the 2007 membership figures (printed in the Annual Report and the last known membership figure) a 3% increase to the levy equates to 30p per member. It should be noted that if the total number of members increases by 31st August 2008, that figure will be reduced – hence the medium term need for a coordinated recruitment campaign.
