Health & Safety training days

First organised in 2009, NFYFC Safety, Health, Awareness Days, run by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), aim to tackle the main causes of farming-related deaths and injuries.

What does the course offer?

This short course covers safe handling of ATVs; telehandlers; machinery maintenance; PTOs and trailer braking; manual handling; livestock handling; working at heights; chemicals and pesticides; and chainsaw safety. Practical demonstrations highlight some of the most common health and safety risks in the industry to raise awareness and help prevent farming fatalities.

Who is the course for?

This training is suitable for those at college, on work placement or young farmers, and is open to all YFC members and associate members between the ages of 16 and 30. It results in certificates of attendance.

What does it cost?

 Free.

When is the next course?

  • 2 March 2010: Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. (From 9.15am-12.30pm and 1.15pm-4.30pm).
  • 17 March 2010: Bicton College, East Budleigh, Devon. (From 9.45am to 3pm).
  • 18 March 2010: Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge, Cornwall. (From 9.45am to 3pm).

How to book

As well as resulting in certificates of attendance, for course participants who are working on farms, attending the training also appears on the HSE record for those premises, lowering their priority for a visit.
