  SUGGESTING A COMPETITION  

Any competition that has been successfully tried and enjoyed in your county can be put forward to the NFYFC competitions steering group for inclusion in the national competitions programme.

Your suggestion should take into account:

What is the purpose of the competition?

  • Learning outcomes.
  • Access to training and learning as YFC members prepare for the competition at any level (county, area and NFYFC final).
  • Is the opportunity very readily available elsewhere?
    If so, is the idea really worthy of being a YFC competition?
  • Should the PD steering group be approached to research training opportunities and/or to write a Skill-up or Curve module to sit alongside this competition?

Where should the competition final be held?

  • At an existing NFYFC event, for example, convention?
  • At a new NFYFC event?
    If so, where, venue availability, at what costs, are funds available?
  • At another external event/show?
    If so, which event show?

What age range is the competition aimed at?

  • Can the majority of YFC members take part and what will motivate them to?
  • Do they have the opportunity to do well in the competition?

Should it be an Area Eliminator or a County-to-NFYFC direct entry final?

Who will write the rules?

Resourcing: NFYFC final

  • The setting-up time required – on the day only, the day before, the week before?
  • Who would set this up?
  • How many judges would be needed?
  • How many stewards?

Resourcing: Area Eliminator

  • Organisation – who will organise the Area Eliminator?
  • The setting-up time required – on the day only, the day before, the week before?
  • Who would set this up?
  • How many judges would be needed?
  • How many stewards?

Resourcing: County and Group County rounds

  • Organisation – who will organise the County and Group County rounds of the competitions?
  • The setting-up time required – on the day only, the day before, the week before?
  • Who would set this up?
  • How many judges would be needed?
  • How many stewards?

What facilities will be needed?

(eg inside/outside area, wet weather covering, size of area, type of area, grass/hard/astro)

  • NFYFC final

  • County Group eliminator

What equipment would have to be hired in?

(eg sports equipment, storage container, safety netting, marquees, safety barriers, tables, chairs, public address system, weighing scales, ropes, catering, first aid, electricity)
  • Costs of equipment?

What are the dangers? 

  • Would it in any way go against our current Health & Safety/Risk Assessment, Equal Opportunities policies? 
  • Is the competition idea inclusive of all sectors of the NFYFC membership?

Budget, sponsorship and finance?

  • Summary of the costs involved?
  • Would this competition attract funding?
  • What benefits would the competition offer a sponsor?
