National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs

Fun, Learning, and Achievement

Newborough Young Farmers’ Club took to the roads for their latest charity endeavor, with a 25 mile tractor run around Helpston in Cambridgeshire.

The club’s 2nd Annual Tractor Road Run involved a total of 32 tractors winding their way through the Cambridgeshire countryside. The route was lined with local residents and supporters and at the half way point around 100 people turned out to see the tractors in all their glory. The run was also supported by local police and convoy vehicles to ensure traffic holdups were kept to a minimum.

Newborough YFC Chairman, Stacey Stringer was grateful for the support:

“The club members and supporters have been truly superb, from helping to leaflet drop all the villages on the route in one rainy evening to placing banners in the villages with time slots. We had a very sporty team of junior members running their little socks off on the day collecting donations from the very kind public. We certainly turned a few heads and made many smile, what more could you ask for!”

A new trophy was also created for the event to commemorate local paramedic Alex McSorley who sadly passed away this year and was a loyal supporter of the club.

The Alex McSorley Memorial trophy will be presented to the individual who raised the most in sponsorship for this year’s tractor road run. All funds raised will be split between the East Anglian Air Ambulance and Newborough YFC.

Spalding and District Young Farmers’ Club in Lincolnshire have raised over £700 for two charities from their annual ball.

They raised £500 for Guide Dogs for the Blind and £200 for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and representatives from both organisations visited one of the club’s weekly meetings to receive their cheques.

Member Oliver Wilson said: “As members of the farming community we all know someone who has been helped by the air ambulance and you never know when you are going to need it yourself, so we always help out with a donation when we can.”
