Devon exchange

Honiton YFC in Devon are looking for a club in England or Wales to do an exchange with them.  Honiton are a club of around 70 members between the ages of 15 and 26.  The club have between 15 and 20 members who are keen to take part in an exchange.

Ideally the exchange would take part between April and August next year, however the members are fairly flexible.

Carcase Judging Competition

This year’s Carcase Judging competition was held on Thursday, 14th October by kind permission of T G Sargeants of Bramshall. Competitors from 6 clubs across the County were judging either Sheep, Pig and Beef Carcases with the final results being Uttoxeter JNFU 1st, Leek YFC 2nd and Eccleshall YFC 3rd. A composite team will now take part in the NFYFC Live and Carcase Competition at The English Winter Fair on Saturday, 20th/Sunday 21st November.

Social Events

Our annual Twilight Ball will be held on Saturday, 30th October at The Ballroom, Keele Hall on the Keele University Campus.  Tickets are £16 in advance and £20 on the door.  The County AGM and Disco will be held on Friday 5th November at the Ingestre Suite, Stafford Showground where the results of the members’ hard work throughout the year will be rewarded and members will then celebrate the evening with Sounds Solution Disco.

Staffordshire Young Farmers had 690 members at the end of August this year and hopes to maintain this again for the forthcoming membership year which started in 1st September.  We can now currently send two teams through to West Midlands Area and National Competitions for the forthcoming year, where eligible, and hope to have has much success in 2011 as we have in 2010.  Young people between the ages of 10 – 26, who want to enjoy fun and excitement, competitions, discos, sports, travel, meeting new friends and learning new and different skills, are invited to contact the County office for details of their nearest Club.

County sports

200 Young Farmers from around the County took part in the Sports finals at Newton Rigg College.

Mixed under 16’s dodgeball proved the most popular sport with Skelton’s team of Aimee Martin, Hannah Potts, Rebecca Maughan, Eamon Monaghan, Joseph Nichol, Josh Graves, Jonny Pickup, Luke Mitchell and John Murray coming first, Eden Valley YFC 2nd; Carlisle YFC 3rd and Raughton Head YFC 4th.

Skelton had dominated the competition, winning all their games but Eden Valley put up a good fight in the final.  Umpire Rob Jones of the Dodgeball Association was extremely pleased to see so many young people thoroughly enjoying the sport.

In the ladies over 18 football, Pennine beat Grayrigg 2-0 in the final with Crook 3rd and Kent Estuary 4th.  Pennine’s winning team consisted of Chloe Chapman, Megan Robinson, Laura Smithson, Hayley Pattinson, Leanne Wilson and Helen Hayllar.  In the qualifiers Grayrigg had beaten Pennine 3-1 but Pennine managed to pull it back in the Finals.

Men’s 7 a-side hockey was won by Dennis Sharp, Nathan Dobson, Isaac Dobson, Stuart Lambert, Sam Wilkinson, Dan Rooke and Richard Barton of Kent Estuary YFC in 2nd place were Carlisle, 3rd Crook and 4th Grayrigg.

Wythall Young Farmers help the heroes

Wythall Young Farmers Club has raised a fantastic £500 for the Help For Heroes charity after various fundraising events, including a Mouse Racing Night held in January 2010.  The club, which is part of the Worcestershire Federation of Young Farmers, meets in Ullenhall.

Young Farmers provides fantastic opportunities to take part in a variety of competitions, to meet new friends and expand ones personal knowledge and interests through its dynamic and exciting programmes.

A volley of congratulations headed the way of a young sports team from Fishguard after they were crowned national champions.

Fishguard YFC’s volleyball team beat teams from all over England and Wales to take the title at the NFYFC competitions weekend.

The team of Charles George, Aled Harper, Ceri Jenkins, Emily Morris, Laura Mowlam and Drew Patrick were thrilled with their win, which capped a successful day for the county federation.
Robert Davies, of Eglwyswrw YFC was placed third in the recycled metalwork sculpture competition and South Pembs YFC’s Thomas Kidney was also third in the competition to paint a picture on the theme ‘my county’.

Brecknock YFC Harvest Festival

The Brecknock Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs held their annual Harvest Festival at The Plough Chapel, Brecon on Sunday 31st October 2010.

The service was conducted by Rev Michael Hodgson and included various readings completed by members of Brecknock YFC.

Members from across the County congregated for the Harvest Festival bringing Christmas Hampers to be given to the Operation Christmas Child Appeal.  The Federation support this project ever year which is run by the Samaritan’s Purse; meeting the critical need of victims of war, poverty, famine, disease and natural disaster.  

The collect of £150.00 will be donated to Plough Chapel, Brecon and The Bracken Trust.
