Fishguard sitting pretty

After a packed day of singing, recitation and comedy at the Pembrokeshire YFC eisteddfod Fishguard were the club sitting pretty as they won the overall title and one of their members scooped the coveted chair prize.

Ffion Haf Williams was the winner of the chair at the Pembrokeshire YFC eisteddfod.

Fishguard YFC celebrate their eisteddfod win.

The eisteddfod took place at Theatr y Gromlech, Ysgol y Preseli, Crymych on Saturday, and saw scores of young farmers from all over the county competing in the traditional singing and recitation competitions, and the not quite so traditional sketch, improvised news bulletin, humorous duet and the ever popular mime to music.
The highlight of the event was the chairing ceremony, when Ffion Haf Williams ensured the chair returned to Fishguard once again, when she won the chair for her poem story on the theme cymuned (community).

As the night wore on, three clubs found themselves in the running, with Fishguard eventually coming out on top, ahead of Eglwyswrw in second place and Llysyfran in third, although there was some consolation for the two runners-up as they shared the cup for the highest-placed club in the homework section.

Some of the winners will now be selected to represent Pembrokeshire at the Wales YFC eisteddfod in Aberystwyth on November 20th.

Wales YFC presented the first tickets for the new Entertainment Feast to its President, international rugby referee, Nigel Owens and the Deputy Mayor of Swansea, Ioan Richard and his wife, Iris Richard at a special launch yesterday.

This new event to be held next year on the 12 and 13 of March at the Grant Theatre, Swansea, is set to be one of the highlights of the Wales YFC calendar. It will be a showcase of YFC talents where members from across Wales will entertain audiences with colourful and professional half hour performances on the Grand stage as a part of the Entertainment Competition.

The weekend festival will give members the opportunity to perform on a professional stage with up to date facilities with assistance from experienced stage managers. For the first time Wales YFC bring both English and Welsh finals of the Entertainment competitions together to the same stage.

A Welsh session will kick off the proceedings at 2pm with the Ynys Môn, Montgomery and Ceredigion Federations competing with the second session of the day beginning at 7.30pm where the Pembrokeshire, Radnor and Brecknock Federations will compete with their English performances. The second day will begin earlier at 12 noon with an English session where the Gwent, Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan Federations will entertain the audience. The final session of the weekend will be a bilingual session with the Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire Federations competing in Welsh and the Montgomery Federation showing off their English performance. The session, which starts at 5pm will also host the results of both the English and Welsh Entertainment competitions.

The first 500 tickets for the event are now on sale from the theatres box office and those wishing to attend will be able to purchase a session ticket, a day ticket or a gala ticket for the whole weekend. The remaining tickets will go on sale following the county rounds.

Enfys Evans, Wales YFC chairman stated;
“Such feast of entertainment is a salivating prospect as the talent within our YFC communities are abundant, from scripters to producers and of course the most important part of the jigsaw, the members performing on stage. This new event is an exciting development in many ways, a bilingual showcase, a fantastic stage for our members and a great weekend away for our supporters. Let’s raise the roof on the Grand and I’d certainly advise booking your tickets now to avoid disappointment as this will be a weekend to remember”.
