All 12 counties to take part in Wales YFC Eisteddfod!

All 12 county Federations will take part in the Wales YFC Eisteddfod which is to be held at the Great Hall, Aberystwyth on Saturday 20th of November, hosted by the Montgomery Federation.

A four counties Eisteddfod held recently for the four Federations that do not currently compete in the Wales YFC Eisteddfod allowed members from the Brecknock, Glamorgan, Gwent and Radnor Federatations to have an experience of competing in a YFC Eisteddfod, and gave them the confidence to enter their items in the all Wales Eisteddfod.

The Eisteddfod is part of the Wales YFC social education programmes which aims to provide skills, recreational opportunities and confidence to YFC members in a wide range of areas - especially rural skills, Welsh culture, sport and traditional crafts. During the day, more than 700 members, aged between 10 and 26, will attend the event to display their varying talents by competing in all sorts of competitions - both on and off the stage. Being a bilingual event, members can compete in Welsh or English, giving everyone a chance to participate.

This year the chair, sponsored by Mr & Mrs Emyr and Maggie Jones, Melindwr and made by Carwyn Owen, Dyffryn Banw YFC and Robi Wood, Guilsfield YFC, will be awarded for the best entry from the short story and poem competitions. The winners of all competitions, both on and off stage, will win special prize sponsored by the FUW & NFU Cymru, and made from wood by Maria Wagland at Cadfan Crafts, Tywyn.

“I am looking forward to welcoming all 12 county Fderations to the Wales YFC Eisteddfod. It will be a fantastic day of competing with a wide range of competitions, ranging from the traditional competitions that we have come to expect, to more modern, light-hearted competitions, which are always guaranteed to raise a smile. Starting at 11am, the Eisteddfod will probably continue until the early hours of Sunday morning,” said Fflur Pughe, Wales YFC Eisteddfod committee chairman.

“For those who can not make the journey to Aberystwyth, don’t worry - BBC Radio Cymru will be broadcasting from the Eisteddfod, and all of the excitement can be found live on the BBC Cymru website during the day, and live on Radio Cymru from 8pm onwards. Telesgop and Rondo Media will also be broadcasting live on television on behalf of S4C from 7.15pm which will include highlights of the day up until the choir competition and results which will be broadcast live. I would like to thank both the BBC and S4C, and everyone involved in the preparations, for what promises to be a very successful Eisteddfod. I’m sure that we are, once again this year, in for a treat by the multi-talented members of the movement.”
