RES sponsor Wales YFC public speaking day

One of the world’s leading renewable energy developers, RES, will sponsor the Wales YFC Public Speaking Day to be held on Saturday the 26th of March at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.  

During the day over 500 members, aged between 10 and 26 from all over Wales will attend the day to show off their public speaking skills in both English and Welsh. The public speaking competitions are a part of the Wales YFC social education programmes which aims to provide skills, recreational opportunities and confidence to YFC members in a wide range of areas.  

Richard Evans, RES Regional Development Manager – Wales stated;
“RES has a long-standing relationship with the Welsh YFC and we were only too happy to sponsor this event. Public speaking is a difficult, but important skill to master, as it can help to build young people’s confidence and develop leadership skills.

Wind power provides significant support to rural and farming communities throughout Wales, bringing in rent for landowners and regenerating rural communities through community funds and opportunities for contractors. RES is very keen to invest in the future of rural Wales and we wish all the competitors the best of luck for the competition.”

Enfys Evans, Wales YFC Chairman added,
“Wales YFC are very grateful to RES for their support of this event. Public Speaking is a talent that cannot be taught. It is something which has to be nurtured over a number of years. Wales YFC produces some of the best speakers in the country, and that without the encouragement of clubs, club leaders and fellow members, many simply wouldn’t get the opportunity to feel the buzz of competing in such an event.”

Welsh livery guild support Wales YFC for sixth year!

The Welsh Livery Guild have agreed to support Wales YFC members for the sixth year, which means once again a £1,000 prize is up for grabs through the Welsh Livery Guild Young Famer Award. The prize will be available to one lucky innovative and enthusiastic Wales YFC member.  

“We are keen to meet with YFC members who could really benefit from this award and who have enthusiasm for agriculture,” said Mr Bryan Marsh, Past Master of the Welsh Livery Guild.

“We hope that the individual who wins this award, will be able to develop themselves further, for example through training or investment in an agricultural project. Over past six years, we have met with a number of enthusiastic YFC members who are working hard to secure a future for themselves in agriculture, and we look forward to meet inspirational young people again this year.”

The winner of the competition in 2010 was Marc Jones a member of Berriew YFC in Montgomery. Marc  won the award to further support a new lamb production system.

Marc stated,
“The Welsh Livery Guild Young Farmer Award gives young farmers in Wales an ideal start to further their agricultural businesses. For the initial time of a morning spent on writing an application and 30 minutes spent being interviewed by a panel, the rewards certainly out way the time involved in the process. The prize money of £1,000 has allowed me to spend vital money on my sheep enterprise, which has allowed me to not only increase the genetic ability of the flock but also allow me to record this information for future records and analysis.

Rhys Evans Wales YFC Rural Affairs Committee Chairman stated how pleased he was that an organisation with the stature of the Welsh Livery Guild was continuing to support young people in agriculture.
“This competition is now in its sixth year and we have received positive feedback from our members regarding the award. Once again we are very grateful to the Welsh Livery Guild for running and supporting the competition which gives Wales YFC members a unique chance to access this funding.”

Past and present members of Wales YFC between the age of 16 and 31 are invited to produce a brief of no more than 3 sides of A4 outlining how they are working towards a secure future for themselves in agriculture. The brief should include details about themselves as an individual, their ideas to improve or develop a new farming enterprise and aspirations for the future. The closing date for receiving entries is the 1st of June 2011.

Wales YFC plan a busy weekend in Swansea

Preparations are underway for a new exciting event which will be held at the Grand Theatre in Swansea on the 12th and 13th of March. The new Entertainment Feast is set to become one of the highlights of the Wales YFC calendar.

The main event of the weekend will be the Wales YFC Welsh and English Entertainment competition which will be a showcase of YFC talents where members from across Wales will entertain audiences with colourful and professional half hour performances.

Over the two days the Grand Theatre will be buzzing with other events. Special workshops in Welsh and English will be held in the arts wing of the theatre to develop the members skills in costume making, make up and scripting. Past entrants of the Wales YFC NatWest Enterprise Scheme will be present to promote their businesses and to offer advice to other YFC members who are thinking of going it alone.

To mark Wales YFC 75th anniversary a celebratory tree planning session will be held in conjunction with Coed Cadw at Clain Woods at 10am on the Saturday morning. Wales YFC are also asking those attending the weekend to bring along old photos of YFC events to be scanned on to computers as part of the Wales YFC archiving project.

A sky dive is also planed, where Enfys Evans the Wales YFC Chairman along with members from all over Wales will jump from a plane at Swansea Airport to raise awareness of the Wales YFC charity of the year Mind Cymru in association with Rural Support Wales.

Enfys Evans, Wales YFC chairman stated;
“Such feast of entertainment is a salivating prospect as the talent within our YFC communities are abundant, from scripters to producers and of course the most important part of the jigsaw, the members performing on stage. This new event is an exciting development in many ways, a bilingual showcase, a fantastic stage for our members and a great weekend away for our supporters. Let’s raise the roof on the Grand and I’d certainly advise booking your tickets now to avoid disappointment as this will be a weekend to remember”.

Tickets are now on sale from the theatres box office (01792 475 715) and those wishing to attend will be able to purchase a session ticket, a day ticket or a gala ticket for the whole weekend. Once the first 500 tickets for the event have been sold the remaining tickets will go on sale on Monday the 28th of February 2011.
