Fuw main sponsors of Wales YFC field day

The Wales YFC Field Day to be held on Saturday the 16th of April at Welshpool Market will be sponsored by the Farmers Union of Wales and hosted by the Montgomery YFC Federation.

The Field Day is an integral part of Wales YFC’s Spring Calendar and retains close links with the agricultural industry and rural skills.

“The Field Day is rapidly becoming a bigger part of our competitions calendar,” said Wales YFC’s Activities & International Committee Chairman, Kay Morgan.

“The competitions held during this day are quite special, as each one requires the members to be fully versed in the rules and regulations surrounding the activity involved. The Efficiency with Safety competition is a prime example of this, many young people would simply not be fully aware of the importance of adequate health and safety matters if it were not for this event. The ATV challenge also plays a part in teaching competitors how to best handle these powerful machines which are another lethal weapon in the wrong hands, but a fantastically useful tool when used properly.” she added.

“The Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) have supported the organisation for a number of years in various ways and we are delighted that they have agreed to continue their support,” said Enfys Evans, Wales YFC Chairman.

FUW president Gareth Vaughan said: “The union is very happy to play a crucial supportive part in ensuring the success of the Wales YFC Field Day.

“Assisting young people to enter farming is a major role of the FUW and we strongly believe the competitions that take place during the event give the competitors a true taste of what to expect if they decide to become full-time farmers.”

During the day representatives from a range of organisations will also be present offering help, support and information to members. Stands will include; The Welsh Assembly Young Entrants Support Scheme, Lantra, Farming Connect, British Wool Marketing Board, Powys Farm Diversification, Rural IT, and the Forestry Commission. Fieldsmen from Dunbia will also be present to provide information and answer any questions members may have regards the Wales YFC Lamb Initiative.

Members of the public are most welcome to attend and should contact Wales YFC for further information on 01982 553 502.
