Outline of competition:

At the national final, competitors will be required to judge four rings of stock (four dairy cows, four butchers' cattle, four commercial breeding ewes, four butchers' pigs) and give reasons on all four rings of stock.

Competitors will be required to:

  • Complete a simple multi-choice Animal Health and Husbandry questionnaire and identify cuts of meat. 
  • Place and give reasons on four beef animals judged as butchers animals 
  • Place and give reasons on four breeding ewes judged for breeding potential 
  • Place and give reasons on four butchers pigs judged for slaughter (should access to pigs be limited then it may be necessary to substitute with butchers lambs) 
  •  Place and give reasons on four dairy animals as productive animals 
  •  Animals in each ring will be designated A, B, X, Y. 
  •  Competitors will be required to complete a simple multi-choice Animal Health and Husbandry Questionnaire. 
  •  Competitors will be required to identify cuts of meat.

  • Parental Consent Form for all U18s - Copy returned to NFYFC 10 days prior to event
  • Absentee Form - Completed by County Office to be excused from presentation of awards
