The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) is one of the largest rural youth organisations in the UK. It heads a nationwide body of 598 Young Farmers’ Clubs (YFCs) throughout England and Wales.

Led by young people, for young people, YFCs provide 22,000 members aged 10 to 26 with a unique opportunity to develop skills, work with their local community, travel abroad, take part in a varied competitions programme and enjoy a dynamic social life.


GFYFC County Development Officer

Role: Permanent | Hours: 32 per week | Salary: £23,000pa plus statutory pension contribution, plus travelling expenses

Based: GFYFC HQ but to include fieldwork (travel to meetings and events – countywide and some additional travel if needed)

Responsible to: Staff Management Committee of GFYFC.

Job description:  

To work with members and supporters of GFYFC to further develop the YFC movement within Gloucestershire in order to improve the growth of our current and future membership.To support the County team in delivering Educational, Charitable and Competitive events for young people within the countryside within the age of 10-28.

To support and aid our network of 11 clubs across Gloucestershire to facilitate the growth and development of their membership including delivering training and learning opportunities for clubs and members alike.The County Development Officer will support the running of the Federation day to day including legislative, financial and any admin support to the County team. 

You will also provide organisational support to the Federation’s programme of events, competitions and activities, compile the County newsletter weekly in conjunction with the County Chairman, attend Activities & Development committee meetings as required and also attend some County and regional events.

This role will include working with the members and Committees to promote, market and raise the profile of GFYFC amongst the wider community, as well as providing good communication from GFYFC to Clubs to increase their individual profile through social media, the website and other wider communications. 

With membership across the age range stated above, safeguarding of the younger membership is also highly important.

You will contribute to the overall sustainability of GFYFC by seeking new opportunities for projects, events and grant funding. Performance in the role will be measured based on membership numbers, compliance with legislative responsibilities of GFYFC, profitable events, grant funding and communication/engagement with the membership.

  • Good communication and administration skills with social media and basic website knowledge
  • Shows initiative through creativity
  • Be organised
  • Be up to date on all relevant legislation in respect of youth services
  • Excellent oral and written skills 


  • Knowledge of YFC and further rural issues
  • The ability to use video conferencing platforms when needed
  • Previous experience of youth work.
