Action-packed Sports Day success

An adrenaline-pumping day of competition and camaraderie brought YFC members from across England and Wales together in July for NFYFC’s Sports Day, featuring four national finals: Men’s 5-a-side Football, Mixed Rounders, Netball, and Badminton Doubles.

Leading the charge was Cornwall YFC, who made history by becoming the first Cornish team to win the Men’s Football competition. Despite joking that they hadn’t trained for the event, team member Cian Baker said their relaxed approach made the win even more memorable.

“We literally put our name forward as a group of mates just to see how far we could get,” said Cian. “Only three of us play regular football – the rest hadn’t kicked a ball in years!”

With sideline support from their “coach,” Harvey Jones, the team pulled together, bonded through the competition, and powered their way to the final.

“There were a couple of the lads in the team I didn’t know well before this – and now through this tournament, we’ve got to know each other more,” Cian added. “I think another benefit was meeting and playing other teams outside of our area. To win a national competition is rare for a lot of clubs so it obviously felt good. And to win the final on penalties by one goal, just added a bit of drama to occasion.”

Badminton winners 2025

While Cornwall dominated the football pitch, other regions shone in the remaining competitions. Yorkshire B claimed the Badminton Doubles title in the 10–11 age category, demonstrating excellent teamwork and technique. Matches were played in a best-of-three format to 21 points, and the top pair took home the NFYFC Trophy.

Rounders winners 2025

In the Mixed Rounders, Cumbria A outplayed their rivals with strong batting, fielding, and tactical decision-making to secure the win. The fast-paced game encouraged team spirit, discipline, and fun throughout the day.

Netball 2025 winners

Cumbria B celebrated victory in the Netball final, showing impressive agility, shooting skills, and teamwork. The competition was a chance for members to work closely as a unit, supporting both their physical wellbeing and social connection.

NFYFC’s Sports Day continues to be a highlight of the YFC calendar, offering opportunities for personal development, fitness, and unforgettable memories.

Whether playing for a trophy or joining in for fun, YFC members proved once again the power of teamwork and YFC spirit.
