I am vital safety campaign

YFC members have been ordering and sharing the National Association of Agricultural Contractors' (NAAC’s) new stickers to help remind everyone to stay safe as they are vital to UK agriculture.

The NAAC has asked its contractor members and the wider farming community to join forces to place the stickers in prominent places as a reminder to make safe choices when working on farm.

The stickers should act as a prompt in situations such as always wearing a helmet when riding a quad bike, making sure PTO guards are in place or switching off a machine before clearing a blockage.

NFYFC is working closely with the NAAC to help promote the safety messages.

Jill Hewitt, NAAC CEO, said,

“I’m delighted that the sticker campaign has got off to such a good start and I know that young farmer members have played an important part as farm safety ambassadors – thank you. I’m delighted that we will continue to collaborate with NFYFC and develop more resources for clubs to use.

“We urge everyone to continue to use these stickers as a heads up to take that extra time to make sure a job is done safely and get everyone home to their families at the end of the day."

Jill has also recorded a video for YFC members to ask them to have the confidence to say no if they are unsure if an activity is safe and shares simple safety reminders.

Six safety reminders for young farmers:

  1. Always wear a helmet when on a quad bike – the risks are too high not to wear one.
  2. Be careful around machinery and always switch it off if you’re doing any operation around the machinery.
  3. Be aware of the risk of bales, especially when they are not stacked properly.
  4. Remember the unpredictability of livestock.
  5. Always look up and check for overhead power lines when you’re in machinery.
  6. Never be tempted to climb on a fragile shed roof.

Stickers and safety information are available by contacting admin@naac.co.uk. Why not share the video with your club members and encourage everyone to practise farm safety.

NFYFC also has two workshops on farm safety that have been developed with The Farm Safety Foundation – The Farm Safety Workshop and Minding Your Head– that can be delivered during club meetings.extra in
