Q&A with Luke Brignall

Q&A with Luke Brignall

Luke Brignall, 24, joined Beacon YFC in East Riding of Yorkshire in 2021 and it has quickly become a huge part of his life.

Luke Brignall

What’s your highest achievement in YFC?

It has to be directing and organising our county pantomime. What started as a bit of a trial run grew into five sold-out nights in 2025. We came second at Northern Area and qualified for Nationals. Seeing members grow in confidence and come together as one family made me incredibly proud.

Why you want to be elected to the role?

I’ve seen first-hand the difference YFC can make. As County Chair, I saw how much confidence, opportunity and support it gives to members, and it made me want to give something back. YFC has played a huge part in where I am today, and I’d love the chance to help create the same opportunities for others. I want to be visible, approachable and member-facing, and to make sure every member feels heard and valued.

What skills will you bring to this role?

I bring a strong mix of leadership, organisation and people skills, along with a real understanding of Young Farmers at every level.

I’m a calm and approachable person who people feel comfortable talking to, and I really value listening properly, being open and honest, and representing members’ views fairly.

I’m a good communicator, I enjoy working as part of a team, and I like finding practical solutions when clubs or members need support. I want members to feel heard and involved, and to know that their ideas and concerns matter. I’m organised, reliable and committed, and I genuinely care about making sure Young Farmers stays supportive, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.

What is the biggest challenge - and opportunity – facing YFC?

One of the biggest challenges facing YFC is making sure communication from NFYFC is open, clear and transparent, so members really feel informed, involved and listened to.

Sometimes it can feel like decisions are made quite far away from clubs, and it’s important that members understand what’s happening and feel connected to it.

I think there’s a huge opportunity to bring more new ideas, activities and opportunities to members, so YFC continues to feel fresh, exciting and relevant for everyone.

How will you represent YFC members across England and Wales?

I will represent members by being visible, approachable and by genuinely listening to what people have to say. I want to spend time with clubs and counties, getting to know members, hearing their ideas and understanding what really matters to them. It’s really important that members across England and Wales feel represented, not just the loudest voices, and that everyone has the chance to be heard. If elected, I will always do my best to represent members honestly and fairly, and to make sure their views are taken back to NFYFC.

Why should Council vote for you?

I bring experience, energy and a genuine passion for Young Farmers, and I’m in a great position to represent members across England and Wales.

I’m at a great stage in my YFC journey, based centrally, and always happy to jump in the car and travel wherever I’m needed, whether it’s for a quick meeting or a full day. I’m approachable, enthusiastic and I’ll always give 100% to representing members fairly and making YFC the best it can be.

Elections take place on 22 February 2026. Your Council representative will be given a vote at the meeting.
