NFYFC has been given the amazing opportunity to allow one of its members to take part in the Richard Wigram NZ Scholarship. Applications are invited from members aged 18-28.
Closing date for entries is 25 January 2026.
Interviews will be held in February 2026 in the Somerset Area.
1 x Return flight to NZ leaving June/July (2026) ready for the calving season.
There is a good list of potential employers, who will provide accommodation, many of whom have hosted our recipients in the past.
The duration of the trip is 8 - 10 months paid work and then up to two months sightseeing (if you wish).
This will give those travelling an excellent opportunity to get experience of sustainable dairy farming - cows just fed grass and supplementary crops.
Wonderful scenery and the opportunity to experience many outdoor activities and a different culture.
I am having an amazing time - it's great out here in NZ. Everyone has been very friendly and I'm enjoying the work. Thank you for the opportunity, I really appreciate it. Currently in the North Island near Hamilton milking cows and sheep - I don't think there are many sheep milking flocks in NZ or UK!

My experience in New Zealand so far has been incredible. From having no background in farming and never having been on a plane before, I really threw myself in the deep end! But I am so grateful for the opportunity the scholarship team has given me, I can’ thank them enough for getting me here and giving me this amazing opportunity.
