With nearly five decades of dedication to YFC, Sharon Jones has been a pillar of support within Clwyd YFC.
Having joined Llangollen YFC in 1978 at the age of 17, Sharon’s journey has been marked by a passion for nurturing young people.
Over the years, Sharon has worn many hats – competitor, County Queen, County Organiser, Treasurer, Chair, Secretary, Club Leader, and advisor. Her involvement spans from hands-on roles in competitions to behind-the-scenes tasks like managing finances, organising events, and mentoring members.
For over 20 years, she has served as County Treasurer, and for 23 years, she held the role of County Treasurer and club leader simultaneously. She has also been a Life Member of Clwyd YFC, a membership she is proud to hold.
Her impact goes far beyond titles.
Sharon has been instrumental in sustaining the Llangollen club during challenging times, ensuring its continuity. Her support has helped countless young members develop skills in public speaking and stockjudging – often before the days of social media, when staying connected required even more effort.

The judges praised Sharon’s selfless dedication, with NFYFC Board Member Thomas Oatey saying:
“Every club needs a Sharon! She’s there to encourage, not to dominate. She is dedicated to helping, supporting, and enabling young people to reach their potential, with a steadfast focus on their safety and wellbeing. Sharon has remained as relevant to young people today as she was 20 years ago.”
Sharon’s humility shines through in her own words:
“My passion is to see the young people developing on their journey. It’s not about the excellence they might achieve – it’s about how much they learn or change during that time.
“They have to be the drivers making the decisions and we’re there to support and enable. Sometimes it doesn’t go according to plan, but that in itself is a learning.”
As Llangollen YFC celebrates its 85th year, Sharon continues to be a guiding force, helping the club navigate financial and safety challenges while ensuring a supportive environment for future generations.
Her legacy is not just in the roles she’s held, but in the lives she’s touched and the friendships she’s helped forge.
Well done Sharon!
