Katie Roberts, 23, from Oakham YFC in Leicestershire and Rutland, received a Worshipful Company of Farmers’ Jubilee Scholarship Award in 2024. Katie completed an Embryonic DIY Artificial Insemination (AI) course, which she hopes to use to further her career.
“I was a dairy farm manager with a herd of 300 Ayrshire x Friesian cows, and I felt it would be beneficial for me to have AI skills. I am currently in the process of becoming a vet technician and now work at Fosseway Farm Vets.
I am a farmer’s daughter and have always been interested in the genetic side of farming.
My parents moved to France to farm, where they have 200 Charolais cattle, 1000 Beltex and Blue Texel ewes, 120 Friesian cattle and 2000 hectares of arable.
The DIY artificial insemination (AI) course was brilliant and the instructor was fantastic and very easy to work with.
I found this course interesting and I’m sure it will benefit me in the future. I already have my scanning course, which was an advantage because it helped me learn to AI faster, as I already knew the inside of a cow!
I will be using the training on different farms – I just need to find more clients.
Thank you to the Worshipful Company of Farmers and YFC for this opportunity. I am extremely grateful.”
